about

The inspiration for this song comes from a reggae tune called "A Picture on the Wall" by the Natural-Ites. The song prominently features a chorus that goes like this:

In my house
There's a picture on the wall
Ras Tafari sitting on his throne

Basically, it's a song about how the singers have a picture of Haile Selassie on their wall, and how he looks all regal and stuff I guess. Anyway, this one time, I was working at this gas station I used to work at a long time ago, and I had this CD playing, and this song came on. This guy I worked with was all like, "It sounds like he's saying 'in my house I have a picture of a walrus'."

Well, I thought that was pretty funny. Now, before I say anything else I would just like to add that I enjoy the Natural-Ites song quite a bit and am not trying to directly make fun of it. I also would like to add that I have nothing but the highest respect for the Jamaican people and their screwy religious beliefs.

However, ever since that day at the gas station, every time I hear that song I hear the lyric as "picture of a walrus", and over the years the idea built up into my head as a separate song, sung by a young boy who has a picture of a walrus in his house that brings him comfort in his times of trouble, and I am glad to have had the opportunity to finally write and record that very song.

I am also glad that Vocaloid was able to render the vocals to this better than I ever could. Technology has completely ruined me for ever learning to seriously sing and play instruments.

lyrics

In my house
(In my house)
There’s a picture of a walrus

In my house
(In my house)
There’s a picture of a walrus

In my house
(In my house)
There’s a picture of a walrus

In my house
(In my house)
There’s a picture of a walrus

Yes there is

I see him in the morning
(A walrus in the morning)

And he’s always there in the afternoon
(When I get home from school)

And he always watches me eat my pancakes
(Always watches me eat my pancakes)

From his place on the wall
(Always watches me eat my pancakes)

He’s an inspiration to us all
(Always watches me eat my pancakes)

In my house
(In my house)
There’s a picture of a walrus

In my house
(In my house)
There’s a picture of a walrus

In my house
(In my house)
There’s a picture of a walrus

In my house
(In my house)
There’s a picture of a walrus

I take comfort from
His mighty tusks of ivory

And I see them in his picture
When he’s smiling down at me

He’s smiling down at me
As walrus as can be
