This is an old Bavarian folk tune, once famously adapted for the stage by none other than "Wimbledon" Chesterfield Buttersworth, the world-renowned denizen of Broadway and noted serial killer of children. My arrangement, of course, differs significantly in that there are no animal noises during the first and second chorus, and the use of rawhide-skin drums has been toned down considerably. While some may be disappointed by these alterations, along with the absence of Edweena "Saucy Onion" Stompman on vocals of course, I think that, given time, this version may prove to have the same longevity as Buttersworth's original cast recording.

blackened boiling crimson skies
did bubble through the night
and babblings of the march-hare rang
in places without light

and deep below the city streets
the Catechist did prowl
the gnashings of its razor teeth
precedent to its howl

the cries of bats and sewer rats
would echo in the walls
as Pedro fled the Catechist
through long abandoned halls

the rusty clank of razors faded
when the dawn was nigh
revealing in the light of day
a brown and dismal sky
