about

This eclectic collection of tracks, which combine together to form an incredibly stupid, primitive "rock opera", has been roughly four years in the making. Conceived of back in fall of 2007, this was supposed to have been my very first album; however, I got sidetracked by another project, Crappy Electronic Music for the Mind & Body, and so this one was placed on a shelf and forgotten.

Originally, I was planning to abandon this album. The original set of tracks I had composed for it, which amounted to Sweaty Boot Rash, Bukkake, Swinging Baloney, Love Theme From That Tasty Fish Sandwich, Penguin Tempura, and Sweaty Boot Rash (reprise), were very early experiments, written at a time when I knew little about how to record music and less about how to actually compose it. Once Crappy Electronic Music was polished and ready to go, I felt as if my skills had advanced to a point where these early tracks sounded primitive, and frankly rather embarrassing.

However, now that enough time has passed, I've gone back over them and decided that I actually do consider them to be quite good, for what they are. It has been my belief for some time now (albeit a controversial one) that music is a dynamic force that does not necessarily need to adhere to established rules or formats. In many cases, I think that a person with no formal training in composition or performance, who nonetheless decides to sit down and compose something, has the potential to create really original and interesting music, simply because his lack of formal knowledge forces him to draw from the well of his own ingenuity, and the fact that he is not pressured to adhere to any learned rules or traditions encourages him to experiment and try things that a "trained" musician might never attempt.

So, in short, I gathered up the original tracks I'd recorded back in '07, and made a few new recordings (in the same spirit and based on ideas from the same period) to fill out the album. The result is That Tasty Fish Sandwich, the strange and uplifting tale of a morbidly depressed 24 year old graphic designer who longs to abandon his family and career, and pursue the life of a traveling blues musician. The course of the story is explained in detail in the various track descriptions on this page, or, should you download the album in its entirety (recommended), in the PDF file which is included in the download. Enjoy.
